Westmont/Athens has a long and intimate history with Community Coalition. Many original Coalition were Westmont/Athens residents. Our deep engagement with residents helped us to become aware of the fact that as an unincorporated are of Los Angeles, residents felt they were not receiving the proper attention or resources from local government. With the strong belief that the people of Westmont/Athens and their concerns matter, we launched our organizing work in 2011. Almost four years later, neighborhood residents are currently organizing around public safety issues, creating community-based relationships with law enforcement, increasing access to parks and ending disparities in their public spaces.
